Mom Confirms Mallett Broke Finger, Out "Couple of Weeks"
Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett broke his right, ring finger during a workout on Monday, his mother, Debbie, confirmed.
Mallett told his mother he'd be out a "couple of weeks."
"It's not going to be that big a deal," Debbie Mallett said.
Mallett, a 6-7, 240-pound sophomore transfer from Michigan, worked with the first team throughout most of the spring and he beat out redshirt freshman Tyler Wilson for the starting job.
Arkansas redshirted Mallett in 2008 as he sat out to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. He threw for 892 yards and 7 touchdowns with Michigan in 2007.
Mallett impressed Arkansas coaches with his arm strength and leadership ability. He finished 15 of 26 or 233 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the spring game.
It is unclear how big of a setback this will be for Mallett.
