S.L. Price, author of "Heart of the Game" and a longtime writer at Sports Illustrated, will appear at Dickey-Stephens Park on Saturday to sign copies of his book, "Heart of the Game."
Price's book tells the story of the life and death of Mike Coolbaugh, the Tulsa Drillers batting coach who was killed while coaching first base during a game against the Travelers on July 22, 2007, at Dickey-Stephens Park.
The Travs will be hosting the San Antonio Missions on Saturday, and copies of "Heart of the Game" will be on sale at the ballpark. Fans can meet and speak with Price.
"Heart of the Game" has been described as a “beautifully told tale of love, fate and forgiveness” by former New York Times sports columnist Robert Lipsyte.
Richard Ben Cramer, author of “Joe Dimaggio: The Hero’s Life,” was quoted that “It’s a story of hard luck in a hard game but, in the lives of two minor leaguers, Scott Price reveals the code of baseball. This is one of the baseball books that will endure as long as the game is played.”
Stan Hochman of the Philadelphia Daily News wrote that "Heart of the Game" is “"The best baseball book I have ever read...Dazzling...a welcome antidote to the poisonous steroid sleaze that hogs the headlines and crams the bookshelves...If you read only one baseball book this year, make it 'Heart of the Game.'"
