Pelphrey Finds Time For ESPN, Continues Silence At Home
Posted at 3:13:50 PM by Chris Bahn
Punxsutawney Pel has spoken.

Arkansas basketball coach John Pelphrey surfaced Thursday just long enough to chat with ESPN.com's Andy Katz. Pelphrey talked with Katz about reports three of his players were involved in an on-campus incident that eventually led to allegations of rape.

No charges were filed in the incident, but the details have made national headlines.

Pelphrey has made no statement to local media. He didn't show up to play in an LPGA foursome that he auctioned off this summer to raise money for his Pel's Pals charity.

Word was sent to other members of the golfing group that Pelphrey was on the road recruiting Wednesday and needed Thursday to tend to team issues. That's understandable, but if he was too busy to play and too busy to talk with local media, he should have been too busy for Katz.

And without further ado, here are portion of Pelphrey's comments to Katz...

"We'd all like to live in a world where we don't have to deal with this, but as a coach you'll probably have to deal with something like this," Pelphrey said. "We'd love to have smooth sailing but when something comes our way we deal with it. We have enough checks and balances in place to handle it."

Probably going to have to "deal with something like this"? Let us know where else the following laundry list is happening within less than 400 days:

Aug. 8 Patrick Beverley withheld for season. Beverley left the team and later admitted to academic fraud.
Oct. 24 Courtney Fortson, Jason Henry suspended.
Nov. 3 Courtney Fortson remains suspended.
Nov. 22 Jason Henry suspended.
Nov. 29 Montrell McDonald indefinitely suspended.
Dec. 17 Montrell McDonald quits the team after four-game suspension.
Jan. 24 Marcus Monk withheld from competition because of "eligibility" issue a month after joining the team. He never returns.
Feb. 1 Brandon Moore suspended following DUI arrest.
Feb. 12 Courtney Fortson suspended.
March 10 Jason Henry suspended.
May 6 Basketball program put on notice for 888 Academic Progress Rate. NCAA standard is 925.
June 1 Marcus Britt suspended follwing DUI arrest.
July 8 Jason Henry no longer part of basketball team. He is the fourth member of a six-person recruiting class to leave the program.
July 10 Stefan Welsh reportedly suspended indefinitely.
Sep. 9 Reports linking three UA basketball players, including two newcomers, to an alleged rape surface. No charges were filed.

Did we miss anything?

Chris-
You "media" guys are so cute when you get your feelings hurt because someone won't talk to you but will talk to someone bigger than you.

Why don't you quit piling on and leave the guy alone and let him try and do his job? You didn't say anyything n...
