We have just had our fill with these fall "commitment" announcements, when the word commitment hardly means anything to these high school superstars anymore.
In the case of Michael Dyer, the Little Rock Christian Academy running back and holder of the state record for career rushing yardage, he had a big show Friday morning to announce that Auburn is his choice for college. Yet, watch Dyer make recruiting visits and entertain coaches from other schools in the run-up to signing day the first Wednesday in February. Then he'll probably do the hat thing with all those different ball caps in front of him before pulling out the school that ultimate lands his signature on a national letter of intent.
And that's fine. A kid only gets this chance once in his life when he feels like he's king of the world. Then he shows up on a big-time college campus with two dozen other 18-year-old guys who thought they were king of the world their senior year in high school too, and the older guys on the team start knocking the hell out of them on the practice field.
Here's some national coverage on Dyer.
You can catch more of Dyer in action tonight on ESPNU when the Little Rock Christian football game with Pulaski Academy is shown to a national audience. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Don't worry about attending in person if you haven't already left for the game when you're reading this; the stadium is way too tiny for the crowd they're likely to have tonight.
Oh, sadly it's probably Dyer's last game as a Arkansas high schooler, unless a miracle happens and the Warriors beat PA and somehow Camden Fairview takes down Pulaski Robinson just up the road on Highway 10. The latter is more likely to occur than the former, but the point is, the Warriors need some help to extend theirs and Dyer's season.
