Not sure if this is anti-bulletin board material or not, since Ole Miss has managed to lose at least two games this year the Rebels should not have dropped. But Tennesse coach Lane Kiffin played the O card today, as in Voluntees assistant coach Ed Orgeron, who coached Ole Miss for three seasons before being fired and replaced by Houston Nutt.
He said that Orgeron left Ole Miss loaded with talent. Meanwhile, at the same time, Kiffin also managed to diss his predecessor at UT and the talent he was left with when he arrived late last year.
ESPN writer Chris Low, who blogs about the Southeastern Conference, wrote about Kiffin's assessment of Ole Miss and Orgeron's job there:
“As you can see, 20 of the 22 guys being juniors or seniors are starting [for Ole Miss], so obviously he did a phenomenal job of recruiting there across the board,” Kiffin said. “I wish he wouldn’t have done such a good job because now we’ve got to go play these guys. They have some great players.”
Kiffin also suggested that Orgeron left Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt in a lot better shape talent-wise, particularly on the defensive line, than what former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer left Kiffin.
“There was a scout here the other day that said that four of their defensive linemen will probably be drafted on Day 1,” Kiffin said. “I wish we would have been left with some of those guys.”
Ole Miss plays host to Tennessee on Saturday in Oxford.
