Semi-Sports-Related: How 'Bout Some Cranberry Salsa?
Posted at 10:58:27 AM by Jim Harris

Tuesday on my usual appearance on Justin Acri's "The Zone," we started discussing one non-sports topic that's important to all of us these days: What are we doing for Thanksgiving? And will we be contributing something to the dinner table?

You betcha we will, and on Tuesday we mentioned "cranberry salsa."

Here's how that all came about. While slow to rise one recent morning, we were watching KATV's "Good Morning Arkansas" and saw this peppery dish that sounded just perfect to put a twist on Thanksgiving. Instead of that jelled cranberry mess that accompanies the turkey and dressing, we're going to give this Cranberry Salsa recipe a try, not only for Thanksgiving, but maybe with the leftovers on a trip to Baton Rouge this Friday.

Here, straight from the Good Morning Arkansas section of our partner KATV's Web site, is the ingredients and the simple cooking needed for Cranberry Salsa:

12 oz. package fresh cranberries

3/4 cup sugar

1 cup orange marmalade

2 tablespoon water

1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped

1/2 cup diced celery

1/2 cup sliced green onions, white only

1 tablespoon lime juice

2 tablespoon cilantro, chopped

Place cranberries, sugar, marmalade and water in medium saucepan.  Cook on medium heat about 20 minutes until cranberries are soft and have burst.  Remove from heat and set aside to cool while preparing the remaining ingredients.  Add remaining ingredients.  Mix well.  Serve at room temperature or chilled with your favorite holiday dressing or crackers.

There's an accompany recipe on the KATV site for Arkansas Duck Dressing, another perfect dish for this time of year instead of the usual.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Thank you for visiting our Web site the past couple of years.
