He Said What?: CBS Columnist Gregg Doyel Implodes on Arkansas Radio
Posted at 11:41:39 AM by Jim Harris

After Gregg Doyel of CBSSportsline.com in his column trashed the Arkansas fan base as lunatics and urged Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt to run the score up on the Razorbacks for what the fan base and everyone else did to him as Hog coach, he came on the air with ARN's "The Sports Animals" on Thursday afternoon.

His rambling explanation of all the particulars of how he produced such a column is a hoot, but before the interview was over Doyel simply lost it and started blaming the show's hosts for wanting to ambush him, and yet, he played along.

Do we even have to go point by point in this column Thursday where Doyel showed he may be the most misinformed columnist in the country? Consider that the next time you read a Gregg Doyel column. Consider that CBS, which has the Southeastern Conference contract, employs him. Apparently, CBS likes Doyel's shoot-from-the-hip with limited knowledge style as evidenced by the "Hate Mail" section that accompanies it.

He calls Mitch Mustain a "prostitute" and Gus Malzahn a "pimp." Houston Nutt, he says, was the "john" in this recruiting tryst. Nowhere else, Doyel claims, has any fanbase come close to the actions of Arkansas' toward Nutt while he was coach.

Also, Doyel says he should have added the line that while he hopes Houston Nutt runs the score up this week, he also hopes he goes 4-8 "because you're an idiot too." Doyel hints to needing an editor, such as one of the radio hosts. He needs someone -- fact-checker would be a good start.

We've spoiled enough of it. Just listen.

Wow. I wasn't even one of the people calling for Houston's head, but apparently EVERYONE in Arkansas is a lunatic! Doyel in the beginning says he's talking about ONLY the lunatic fringe, then negates that comment by saying ALL of Arkansas is to blame. I have to politely disa...

He's crazy like a fox. I'm listening to the broad now so I can't exactly comment on the radio interview. The article is outlandish. However, he's got everyone reading his column and talking about him.

I read the column. Sorry, but as a Razorback fan and UA graduate, I hate to admit he was pretty much on the money with his assessment.

All I can say now that I've heard it is O-M-G! I hope Mitch's Mom sets her sights on him now. Then let's see how he feels about it all.

Go Hogs! Crush the Rebels!!!!

I enjoyed Gregg's column. He was right on the money with his comments. As a UA alum, I'm embarrased by what some of the so-called fans have done to our once-proud team. We may never recover from their actions.

Is this the same guy that's an Ole Miss Allum?

I heard someone talking about it on one of Arkansas's radio talk shows a few days ago. (wedesday I think)

Would that explain the Arkansas bashing just a little bit?

Everyone with a brain know'...
