While the "Miracle on Markham, Part II" is still fresh on Razorback fans' minds, let us not forget Part I.
Matt Jones to Decori Birmingham gave the Hogs a victory over LSU on Nov. 29, 2002, and pushed Arkansas into the SEC title game.
Jones has gone to play receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars while Birmingham is still hanging onto his dream of making it in the NFL.
After spending the past season on the Carolina Panthers practice squad, Birmingham was given a "future contract" with the club announced on Wednesday.
The Panthers Web site had this to say about the running back:
The Arkansas product spent the entire regular season on Carolina's practice squad after being waived by the Panthers at the final cutdown on Aug. 30. In previous seasons, he has toiled on the practice squads of the New England Patriots, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts without once seeing the field during the regular season. The good health of the Panthers' running backs meant that a promotion to the 53-man roster was not in the cards, but he'll now have another offseason to work toward his long-held goal of cracking a regular-season roster.
Let's hope this former Hog is able to reach his goal of playing on Sundays.
