A.J. Burnett
Sport: Baseball
Team: New York Yankees
Position: Starting Pitcher
The North Little Rock native played baseball at Central Arkansas Christian Academy before being drafted by the Mets in 1995. He was traded to Florida in 1997 as part of the "fire sale" that occurred following the Marlins' first World Series Championship. He was called up from the minor league to play for the team in 1999. Since then, Burnett has pitched a no-hitter, led the league in shutouts, and once threw 16 consecutive 100 m.p.h. fastballs to Prince Fielder in one at-bat. Burnett joined Toronto in 2006 and spent two months on the disabled list. In 2007, he was the only Blue Jays pitcher to make all of his starts in the first two months, throwing 71 innings. Burnett signed a free agent deal with the Yankees prior to the 2009 season.
