[VIDEO] Razorbacks Coach John L. Smith Would Like You to SMILE!

by 9/19/2012 6:00 am

Arkansas Coach John L. Smith entered the Raymond Miller Room at the Broyles Center on Monday, fresh off (another) one of the worst losses in Arkansas history. But he sees no reason for solemn faces. At least not from media who gathered to ask follow-up questions about the Razorbacks’ 52-0 loss to Alabama and this week’s 6 p.m. game with Rutgers (3-0).

Razorbacks' John L. Smith Not Listening To 'Crap' From Critics As Arkansas Struggles

by Chris Bahn 9/17/2012 5:51 pm

Criticism of Arkansas Coach John L. Smith has increased over the past week. Smith, signed to a 10-month contract in April, has been the source of fan backlash on message boards, talk radio shows and through social media. Some are unhappy with how the Razorbacks have performed in the first three games of the season. Smith dismissed the criticism and said he is focused on the remaining nine games this season.

Live Game Blog: Arkansas vs. Alabama, Sept. 15

by Jim Harris 9/15/2012 2:45 pm

Hello again. We hope everybody's back from last week and didn't do something drastic after Louisiana-Monroe's overtime upset win over the Razorbacks in Little Rock. Here's the game everybody's been anxiously awaiting since last January: Arkansas vs. Alabama at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Will the Hogs be able to bounce back from last week's stunning loss to a Sun Belt team before a home crowd at War Memorial Stadium. Be a part of the blog and feel free to comment in the accompanying comment section, or send me an email at jharris@abpg.com (I periodically will check the mail during the game).

Harris: On Football Collisions, And The Play From Last Week No One Talks About

by Jim Harris 9/14/2012 1:42 pm

The media at War Memorial Stadium last Saturday night were still looking at video and reading the reports from a hit in the Tulane-Tulsa game earlier that day — the play that left Tulane safety Devon Walker with a spine injury and an uncertain future — when, suddenly, Arkansas cornerback Tevin Mitchel was sprawled on the stadium turf. For a few quiet moments, no one with binoculars could detect any movement from the player. Just like in Tulane's game, in which Walker and a teammate appeared to sandwich a Tulsa player and hit each other at the same time, Mitchel had collided helmet-to-helmet with teammate Alonzo Highsmith. Mitchel just happened to have his head at the wrong angle compared to Highsmith's when the helmets banged at high, athletic speed as the defenders converged on a Louisiana-Monroe receiver (who, understandably, dropped the ball).

by Doc Harper 9/14/2012 8:58 am

Recovering from ULM 34, Arkansas 31 (OT) just in time for this week's fantasy bets. Look for Alabama to cover the spread, although Doc wouldn't complain if Arkansas proved him wrong.

Bahn: Razorbacks Fun To Talk About, But Hard For Some To See As Serious Threat So Far

by Chris Bahn 9/7/2012 2:00 pm

Nobody really seems to know what to make of the eighth-ranked Razorbacks as they enter Saturday’s game with Louisiana-Monroe. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and all anybody really knows is that Arkansas is full of interesting storylines. For now, this program is more sideshow than main event.

Jim Harris' SEC Notebook: Disappointment For Razorback Nation As Aggies Land 'GameDay'

by Jim Harris 9/5/2012 2:10 pm

Arkansas fans keep hoping ESPN will bring "College GameDay" back to Fayetteville, such as for the Sept. 15 game with Alabama. The Saturday "GameDay" has made just one trip to Fayetteville, and that was for the 2006 game with Tennessee. It probably won't make Razorback fans happy to know that Texas A&M, which joined the SEC this season, will have "GameDay" at College Station for its first conference game. "GameDay" will originate from the A&M campus Saturday when the Aggies play Florida. ESPN is broadcasting the game as well, starting at 2:30 p.m. Also in this week's notebook, we look at some fabulous performances over last weekend and offer Week 2 of our SEC Power Poll.

Jim Harris: Spirit Of Arkansan Bear Bryant Runs Through Schnellenberger’s Veins

by Jim Harris 9/4/2012 3:30 pm

Howard Schnellenberger, now enjoying retirement in Boca Raton, Fla., after his last college football building job ended last season, reveres Paul “Bear” Bryant. The respect is easy to detect simply by listening to the way he goes on, stops, and adds yet another tidbit about the legendary coach, whose staff at Alabama including Schnellenberger in the rip-roaring 1960s, when Bryant returned Alabama to college football dominance.

by Jim Harris 8/29/2012 2:08 pm

But a lot of eyes will be on Nashville, Tenn., on Thursday night when South Carolina and Vanderbilt tangle in a game with huge, early SEC East implications.

by Chris Bahn 8/29/2012 1:00 pm

This football season marks the 21st for the Razorbacks as members of the SEC. Having completed two decades in the league it seemed worth reflecting on how far the program has come. Which victories over the last 20 years were the sweetest? Were there losses that hurt more than others? What coaching decisions still have folks scratching their heads? ArkansasSports360.com assembled a panel aimed at answering these questions. We have our list and we'd love to hear yours. No. 3 on our moments we'd love to forget: Alabama 24, Arkansas 20 ...

Jim Harris: Watch Football Evolve Before Your Very Eyes

by Jim Harris 8/29/2012 12:48 pm

A fascinating story surfaced on the Internet last week about the success of the newfangled offenses in college football at such outposts as Stillwater, Okla., and Morgantown, W.Va. The common thread in those places is, of course, Dana Holgerson, who was offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State in 2010 after a stint with former Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin (now at Texas A&M) and then became head coach at West Virginia. Oklahoma State was even better last year, not missing a beat with 28-year-old Brandon Weeden at quarterback and wunderkind Justin Blackmon at receiver.
