About this point in the season last year, Arkansas was way behind its opponents in takeaways. Then-head coach Bobby Petrino seemed to credit it mostly to luck — he insisted the turnovers would start balancing out the Razorbacks’ way. If we apply that logic to this Hog team under Petrino’s successor, John L. Smith, then turnovers should start coming Arkansas’ way by the bushel. In just three games, Arkansas is minus-8 in the turnover margin: six lost fumbles and four interceptions while claiming one fumble and one interception.

Arkansas has commitments from four of the Top 5 in-state football recruits for the class of 2013 so far. Pulaski Academy tight end Hunter Henry committed last week. Fayetteville quarterback Austin Allen, safety Alex Brignoni and linebacker Brooks Ellis gave their pledges earlier this summer. That leaves North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny as the lone holdout. Where does Arkansas stand with him?

Arkansas basketball coach Mike Anderson and the Razorbacks added a sixth recruit to the Class of 2012 on Wednesday when Birmingham (Ala.) Lawson State Community College combo forward Coty Clarke committed. Clarke (6-foot-7, 225mpounds) arrived in Fayetteville on Tuesday for an official visit and knew shortly after arriving that Arkansas was the place he wanted to spend the next two years. Lawson College's Deddrick Tarver, who is an assistant coach at the school, thinks Arkansas is getting a player who will help them next season.

Arkansas will host another Junior Day on Saturday with around 25 prospects scheduled to be on campus. Arkansas hosted approximately the same amount of prospects on Feb. 12. The headliners of this Junior Day might be the running backs. St. Louis (Mo.) John Burroughs 3-star Ezekiel Elliott, 6-0, 195, North Little Rock 4-star Altee Tenpenny, 5-11, 200, Denham Springs (La.) 3-star Kaleb Blanchard, 6-1, 200, Bentonville's Tearris Wallace, 5-10, 207, and Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict at Auburdale 4-star Jordan Wilkins, 6-0, 205, are all slated to be in Fayetteville on Saturday.

North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny, a four-star prospect for the class of 2013, has committed to Alabama. Multiple outlets are reporting the Tenpenny commitment, including national recruiting site 247sports.com. Tenpenny, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior, missed last season with a fractured ankle.

Pulaski Academy tight end Hunter Henry, 6-5, 235, and North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny, 5-11, 200, are both 4-star recruits according to 247Sports and are rated among the Class of 2013 Top 247 released by 247Sports. Tenpenny is rated the No. 28 recruit in the nation while Henry is No. 76.

The best football player in the state this fall may not be a senior, but instead a junior. North Little Rock running back Altee Tenpenny rushed for 1,121 yards and 15 touchdowns on 147 carries as a sophomore. Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss have made offers to him. By this time next year, it may be easier to name the schools that haven't offered than the ones that have. His list could be that long. Tenpenny was at the Junior/Senior Prospect Camp at Arkansas on Saturday and impressed as expected.

It would be understandable if the eight members of the 7A-West convinced the Arkansas Activities Association to move the classification’s state championship game – heck, make that the semifinals too — to Reynolds Razorback Stadium on the University of Arkansas campus. Playoffs in the state’s highest classification have been dominated by the West for most of the decade.
