If a golfer hasn’t broken through with a first PGA Tour victory by age 44, it’s unlikely to happen these days, what with all the up-and-coming young whippersnappers with their monstrous drives and steely nerves. But Ken Duke, who had three career, second-place finishes on Tour, persevered and earned that victory, beating Chris Stroud in a two-hole playoff.

Southland Pledges To Help Build Verizon Arena Conference Center Adjacent To HOF

The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame announced Thursday a $300,000 pledge from Southland Park Gaming and Racing in West Memphis that will enable Pulaski County to complete a conference center adjacent to the museum inside Verizon Arena in downtown North Little Rock.

The odds say it's likely another Simpson will be lurking in the field. Simpson was a two-time winner of the Southern Amateur Championship during an illustrious amateur career, zoomed up the PGA Tour rankings late in 2011 and won the biggest prize in U.S. golf on Sunday.

I am constantly reminded that Arkansas is the Natural State. Spending time outdoors in places like Petit Jean and the Buffalo River is perfect proof that this slogan is well justified for our small state. Friday night I learned that you could be reminded of the extreme value of our resources from an indoor venue. I attended the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Banquet. It was easy to want to attend because the 1994 Razorback Basketball team was being inducted, and my wife and I attended every home game as students in Fayetteville that memorable year.

Two hobbies that can pull Bobby Petrino away from his immersion into football are horse racing and golf. It's the latter that will bring Petrino and the rest of his Arkansas Razorback football coaching staff to Little Rock on July 18, but eventually the day will work its way back from golf to football.
