The committee on Friday advanced five proposals to a joint committee that will consider which ones should be placed on the 2016 ballot. One proposal would reinstate the voter ID requirement that the state Supreme Court found unconstitutional in October.
Republican Rep. Stephen Meeks says his bill would save tax dollars and protect the environment. The 13-page bill would require city and county governments to use energy efficient lighting when replacing fixtures and attempt to reduce glare from billboards and onto private property.
The House voted 95-0 Monday to allow school districts with fewer than 350 students to apply for a waiver from the state. Smaller districts that meet academic, fiscal and facility standards set by the state would be eligible to avoid consolidation with a nearby district.
