Arkansas was supposed to have the sort of pitching that could lead to a postseason run. That has certainly been the case so far. Another strong showing on the mound made the difference Sunday as the Razorbacks won the Houston Regional with a 5-1 victory against Sam Houston State.

Moore Strong Out Of Bullpen, Bats Active As Razorbacks Knock Off No. 5 Florida

Arkansas pitchers Randall Fant, Brandon Moore and Barrett Astin combined to allow one unearned run, while Dominic Ficociello went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored as the 21st-ranked Razorbacks defeated No. 5 Florida, 5-1, on Saturday night at McKethan Stadium. The Razorback offense pounded out 10 hits in the win. Ficociello had a team-high two hits with a RBI and a run scored in the victory. Jimmy Bosco, Michael Gunn and Matt Reynolds also had a hit and a RBI.

Razorbacks Stick With Baxendale On Fridays Despite Recent Struggles

Arkansas didn’t get the sort of outing it would have expected from DJ Baxendale in his last start. He actually endured the worst outing of his career with the Razorbacks at Mississippi State. But Baxendale, considered the staff ace entering the season, will be back in the role of Friday night starter when the No. 3 Razorbacks visit No. 15 LSU. Coach Dave Van Horn said he is still confident in Baxendale.

No. 4 Razorbacks Clinch Series With 8-4 Win Against Alabama

No. 4 Arkansas jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the first three innings, and held on to defeat Alabama 8-4 on Saturday afternoon in front of 8,915 fans at Baum Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Razorbacks clinched the series with the win and improved to 18-2 on the season and 2-0 in SEC play. Alabama dropped to 8-11 and 0-2 in league play with the loss.

Van Horn, Razorbacks See Pitching Depth As Key To Possible Postseason Run In 2012

Arkansas has plenty of pitching depth entering the 2012 season. Dave Van Horn said he sees at least 10 players who are capable of providing valuable innings for the Razorbacks, who open the season as high as No. 4 in preseason polls.

San Diego State’s Cody Slader hit a two-run, game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Aztecs to a 3-2 win over Arkansas on Saturday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Nobody will confuse Delaware State for a Southeastern Conference baseball power. Still, you have to be impressed with what Arkansas did in a series sweep to open the season. Look at what Razorback pitchers accomplished before record crowds at Baum Stadium. Arkansas outscored Delaware State 24-2 in winning all three games of the series and pitching — of the team’s major question marks entering the year — was a big reason for the success.
