Though the Arkansas State Red Wolves struggled with their perimeter shooting Saturday night, they constantly attacked the basket and drew fouls, hitting 28 of 37 free throws and overpowering guard-oriented Florida Atlantic in the opening round of the Sun Belt Men's Tournament in Hot Springs. ASU, despite its 12-19 record and ninth seed entering the tourney, was supported by a large crowd in the smaller confines of the Convention Center Court, one of two used for the first two rounds of the tournament along with the 6,000-seat Summit Arena. Four players scored in double figures for ASU, led by guard Marcus Hooten's 23 in the comfortable win. ASU overcame its 40.8 percent field goal shooting with a solid free throw effort. "Early in the season we weren't good shooting free throws and we were throwing the ball all around the place, but we've improved," John Brady said. ASU lives to fight another day, taking on tourney top seed Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. Sunday in Summit Arena.
