University of Arkansas track coach Chris Bucknam picked up his first national title over the weekend as the Razorbacks won the NCAA Indoor meet. He also triggered an incentive bonus clause in his letter of agreement with the UA.

Behind eight event titles and 196 points, the sixth-ranked University of Arkansas men’s track and field team won the 2012 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships Sunday evening in Baton Rouge, La. Coupled with their victories at the cross country and indoor meets earlier this season, the Razorbacks completed the 13th SEC triple crown in program history. Sunday’s win marked the 17th SEC outdoor team crown in program history.

The top-ranked University of Arkansas men's track and field team won the 2012 Southeastern Conference title Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Ky. On the final day of competition, the Razorbacks collected four SEC event titles and finished the weekend with 151 points.

Arkansas capped its weekend at the Razorback Invitational with a world junior record in the heptathlon by Gunnar Nixon. Competing in his first collegiate multi-event, the Razorback freshman scored 6,022 points to surpass the previous mark of 5,953 points set by Michael Kohnle of West Germany in 1989. Overall, the Razorbacks finished the weekend with three NCAA automatic-qualifying marks.

Arkansas is No. 1 in another sport. Currently the Razorbacks sit atop the indoor track Top 25. They're one of three SEC teams ranked in the Top 3 and Arkansas is No. 1 for the first time since Feb. 11, 2009.

The No. 15 University of Arkansas men’s cross country team have picked up a pair of year-end Southeastern Conference awards. Head coach Chris Bucknam was voted the 2011 SEC Men’s Coach of the Year while junior Eric Fernandez was named the SEC Runner of the Year. League honors were released Friday.

For the 19th time in program history and for the second straight year, the University of Arkansas men’s cross country team captured the Southeastern Conference Cross Country team title with a first-place run Monday morning at the Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville, Tenn. The Razorbacks were paced by SEC champion Eric Fernandez, the 11th individual title for Arkansas since joining the conference.

An official groundbreaking for the Arkansas football operations center will be held next month. Fundraising is nearing completion for that project. And that’s just the beginning for what the athletic department has planned. Tuesday Athletic Director Jeff Long will unveil an official “Master Plan” for facilities that figures to take years (decades?) and millions of dollars to complete. What could we see on Tuesday? Here are a few informed guesses (based on conversations with Long, athletic department employees, donors and others over the last few years):

No. 7 Arkansas closes out its season this week at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The national meet begins today at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa and the Razorbacks begins have teams competing in the decathlon and semifinals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 4x100-meter relay. Arkansas’ women enter the meet ranked No. 4. They begin today competing in the semifinal heats in the 400 meters, 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles.

Arkansas’ Tina Sutej was named Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Year. Coach of the Year honors went to Chris Bucknam and runner Dorian Ulrey was recognized as with the SEC Commissioner’s Trophy, the high point scorer at the SEC Outdoor Championships.

With the help of three event titles Sunday, the No. 11 University of Arkansas men's track and field team won the 2011 SEC Outdoor Championships team title at the Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga. The Razorbacks finished the four-day conference meet with 157.50 points to secure the 16th SEC outdoor title in program history and 25th overall conference crown, dating back to Arkansas' days in the Southwest Conference. The team win is the Razorbacks' first since 2009, and second under head coach Chris Bucknam.

Top-ranked Florida won its first SEC Indoor Track and Field title since 2004, outlasting No. 5 Arkansas on Sunday at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The Gators won the title for the first time since 2004 and ended a six-year winning streak by the Razorbacks at the SEC Indoors. Florida had 148 points while Arkansas had 136.50.

For the sixth time in program history, the University of Arkansas will host the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Feb. 25-27 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Competition begins Friday at 1:30 p.m. (CT) with the start of the heptathlon, featuring Razorbacks Kevin Lazas and Terry Prentice.

For the 18th time in program history, the University of Arkansas captured the Southeastern Conference men’s cross country championship Monday morning in Columbia, S.C. Paced by five top-10 individual finishes, the 10th-ranked Razorbacks totaled 34 points to come away with the team title. Senior Dorian Ulrey led the way for Arkansas with a third-place individual finish. The win also marks the first SEC cross country title for head coach Chris Bucknam.
