Gifts to the UA in fiscal year 2013 topped $108.4 million, following $108.1 million in 2012 and $121.3 million in 2011. Arkansas State Coach Gus Malzahn reached out to University of Arkansas athletic department officials multiple times in May and June. Those calls, noted in documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request for Malzahn’s phone records, were made in an attempt to inquire about Arkansas’ policy of scheduling in-state opponents. Give Jeff Long and his staff credit for seeing areas they can improve and asking for feedback via a fan survey. Kudos to them for recognizing not all fans are happy, and being willing to open themselves up for suggestions. Ask for an opinion and there’s a really good chance you’ll hear something you don’t like. That’s the risk run with giving the customer a voice. But that’s the beauty of the survey. Arkansas is at least willing to listen. Doesn’t mean everyone will like the end result, but there’s at least an attempt at improving the product.
