Saturday Roulette: How Much Can Texas A&M Score On A Dumpster Fire ... Er ... Arkansas?

by Doc Harper 9/28/2012 8:30 am

Did you know the term “dumpster fire” can become a cliché? It’s true. If you’ve seen almost any article written about the Razorbacks over the last few weeks, there’s a 100 percent chance you’ve seen the term as a description of the Arkansas football program. It’s to the point that some writers have begun to apologize to “burned out dumpsters.” After all, it’s not like other things can’t catch fire and would also be accurate metaphors for the Razorbacks. How’s about a junkyard fire? Or a port-o-potty fire? However, when the dumpster fire is shown in graphic, photoshop form, it is quite hilarious. Fortunately, there are other programs we can focus on, and bet our fantasy dollars on.

by The Associated Press 10/30/2011 8:35 pm

Stanford's first win of the season against a ranked team helped Andrew Luck and the Cardinal move up in the BCS standings. While LSU (8-0), Alabama (8-0) and Oklahoma State (8-0) remained locked into the top three spots in the standings released Sunday, Stanford moved up two places to fourth after beating Southern California 56-48 in triple overtime.

Razorbacks Move Up In Pair Of Polls, But Fall In BCS Standings

by Chris Bahn 10/23/2011 8:44 pm

Arkansas avoided a loss at Ole Miss. But the Razorbacks couldn’t avoid slipping in the BCS standings. A 29-24 victory against the Rebels wasn’t enough for Arkansas (6-1, 2-1) to maintain its spot in the BCS. Now the Razorbacks are No. 10, failing to move up in a week two Top 10 teams lost.

Saturday Roulette: Houston Nutt's Mixtape For Sad Times In Oxford, Miss.

by Doc Harper 10/21/2011 9:30 am

Around 2006 or 2007, Houston Nutt’s Razorback teams inspired me to burn a CD of songs that would help me wallow in sorrow in the event Arkansas would under-perform and suffer a heartbreaking defeat. After seeing the despair radiating off Nutt in his Monday press conference, I began to wonder if he had songs he listened to for comfort in these difficult times, and if so, what would they be? Since this is Ole Miss week, Saturday Roulette will include a song with each pick that we imagine is featured on Nutt’s sad times mixtape (I believe he still uses mixtapes).

Razorbacks Open BCS Rankings At No. 9

by Chris Bahn 10/16/2011 9:43 pm

Arkansas debuted at No. 9 in the first BCS rankings of 2011. No one-loss team is ranked higher than the Razorbacks (5-1, 1-1 SEC), who achieved their best opening BCS ranking. Arkansas opened at No. 12 in 1998 and was No. 23 in last year’s poll.

by The Associated Press 10/16/2011 9:14 pm

Surprising Kansas State climbed to No. 12 in The Associated Press college football poll Sunday, the Wildcats' best ranking since 2004. Kansas State improved to 6-0 on Saturday night with a 41-34 comeback victory at Texas Tech and jumped five spots in the new rankings. It was the fourth straight week coach Bill Snyder's Wildcats won as underdogs. The last time Kansas State was ranked this highly was the 2004 preseason poll, when the Wildcats were No. 12.

AS360 Football Picks, Week 4: Making Cheese Toast

by Mark Carter 9/23/2011 11:39 am

Some folks seem to be equating the Hogs' chances of winning in Tuscaloosa on Saturday to making cheese toast in an upright toaster.

AS360 Football Picks, Week 3: Questions for the Ages

by Mark Carter 9/16/2011 12:45 pm

Are the Hogs' talented D-linemen and receivers really as deep as advertised? Can Dennis Johnson pick up where he left off? Will ASU cover in Blacksburg?

Saturday Roulette: Will Hogs Avoid Tune-Up Doldrums? Will Nutt Improve Against Vandy?

by Doc Harper 9/16/2011 10:00 am

Last week’s picks proved to be so spectacular I only regretted that I have but one fantasy bank account to bet on college football games. Last week’s picks notched a 7-0-1 record, which means we won enough that we can celebrate through the Razorbacks’ final tune-up game and recover in time for the beginning of the season next week.

by Jim Harris 6/24/2011 2:30 pm

In the not-too-distant past, when the best high school football player in Arkansas chose to leave the state, much hang-wringing ensued among Razorback fans. Now, barely anyone notices.
