Reggie Swinton, the Little Rock Central product whose NFL career took him to such stops as Dallas and Detroit as a top return specialist and receiver, has taken over as Arkansas’ Amateur Athletic Union director for football. His first order of business will be to build a groundswell of support for AAU youth football (ages 7-12) that would include summer tournaments bringing any AAU clubs from around the country, a potential fall statewide league, and a post-season tournament that would send the state winners on to Orlando, Fla., for the AAU national championships in December. He's getting started early on 2013 with a registration for players on Feb. 2 and a benefit golf scramble at Rebsamen Park Golf Course on March 18.

For this old-timer it doesn't seem that long ago, in Arkansas' early years in the Southeastern Conference, that the football Hogs would be regularly trounced by the big boys while the fan base would be anxiously looking forward to basketball season and the upcoming hoops signing day. Those days may be back. In the middle of Arkansas being routed 52-0 by Alabama on Saturday, the one glimmer of hope came from Mike Anderson's basketball program when Moses Kingsley announced his commitment to the hoop Hogs.
