Any call would have been a good one for Demario Davis on Friday. But when the New York Jets called to inform him he’d been picked 77th overall in the NFL Draft, Davis felt an additional sense of satisfaction. Davis enjoyed a comfort level with the Jets throughout the months leading up to the draft. They’d scouted him at Arkansas State, watched him in the Senior Bowl and met with him in person several times since the NFL Combine.

Demario Davis has done his part. Davis was an all-Sun Belt Conference linebacker for Arkansas State. He turned in solid showings at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. Now it’s up to the teams making picks in the NFL Draft, which begins today and runs through Saturday. Davis is one of multiple prospects with state ties expecting a call. Not unlike the other hopefuls, he’s not sure yet who or where the call comes from.

Arkansas State defensive coordinator John Thompson likes what he’s seen from his defensive players so far. Through two spring practices he’s seen the desired effort. Thompson likes the tempo the defensive players have brought to the field. But Wednesday, when the Red Wolves put on pads for the first time this spring, is when Thompson can truly begin evaluating what he has. Only then will Thompson be able to tell, as he puts it, who can really “bite.”

Joe Adams finished the Senior Bowl much better than he began it. Adams fumbled on the South's opening drive, but was spectacular from there, finishing with 133 yards on eight catches. He had no touchdowns, but led all players in the all-star game with total receptions, yards and an average of 16.6 yards per catch in being named the South most valuable player.

Michigan State's Kirk Cousins and Wisconsin's Russell Wilson threw touchdown passes to lead the North to a 23-13 victory over the South in the Senior Bowl on Saturday. Arkansas receiver Joe Adams, the South's Most Outstanding Player, had six catches for 116 yards after losing a fumble on the opening drive. He had a 36-yarder and a 29-yarder in the third quarter.

Arkansas State linebacker Demario Davis was a late addition to the Senior Bowl roster. He’s wasted no time proving he belonged on the first day of practice. Davis, a two-time all-Sun Belt Conference player, earned nice reviews. He showed speed and power during drills and recovered a fumbled punt during special teams work.

Texas' loss was Little Rock's gain, it seems. When the Texas vs. the Nation college all-star football game was put on hold for a year — as it moves from San Antonio to Allen, Texas — some of the organizers decided to look elsewhere to stage a national college football all-star game. They have chosen Little Rock and War Memorial Stadium for their North vs. South Players All-Star Classic on Saturday, Feb. 4.

College Football News named six Arkansas State players to its preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team. Defensive lineman Dorvus Woods and defensive back Kelcie McCray were first-team picks. Other selections included second-team picks: quarterback Ryan Aplin, wide receiver Dwayne Frampton, lineman Tom Castilaw and linebacker Demario Davis.

Arkansas State tied for the most preseason selections among Sun Belt Conference teams in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook. Selected to the first-team were wide receiver Dwayne Frampton and center Tom Castilaw on offense. ASU defensive picks included lineman Dorvus Woods, linebacker Demario Davis and cornerback Darron Edwards. All five picks are seniors.
