School Crossings: NLR Gets Piano from Barry Manilow & More School News

In April, the North Little Rock School District got a donation from an unlikely source—Barry Manilow! As part of the Manilow Music Project, the singer-songwriter donated a Yamaha piano to the school to help launch a music instrument drive.

The teens still participate in SMTI, in addition to performing at high-profile gigs—one of their first performances was at the Governor’s Mansion—in their a cappella group, making appearances on main-stage productions at The Rep, and participating in other activities individually.

A reception was held at the Episcopal Collegiate School’s Simpson Library to honor the inaugural recipients of the Montgomery Family Scholarship. The scholarship funded by Susan and Bill Montgomery will be annually awarded to students who show strong academic achievement, leadership and citizenship and plan to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
