Moving the East-West High School All-Star Game to Conway beginning next year should not be the only step the Arkansas Activities Association, the state’s coaches and administrators make with the game. Taking into consideration all the chances in football for the graduating seniors in Arkansas, the AAA should revisit the date of the game.

Central Arkansas came out sharp to open the game with two lengthy touchdown drives, then stumbled for a quarter before breaking the game open in the third period and easily handling Henderson State 38-17 at Estes Stadium on Conway on Thursday night. The game drew a UCA record crowd of 12,755 for the first game with a new purple-and-gray artificial turf.

See, it really wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. When UCA announced it was installing a purple and gray field back on April 1, the timing left a few folks skeptical. But the Bears administration assured everyone that it was legit. Installation would begin after spring practice and the field would be ready for the season.
