Groundwork has already started on the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education in Fort Smith, which will include a 100,000-SF main building and several other buildings with an expected price tag of approximately $32 million. Arkansas State University at Jonesboro is building a College of Osteopathic Medicine with its partner, the New York Institute of Technology.

The proposed osteopathic medical school in Fort Smith now has a dean. Kenneth A. Heiles was named dean of the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and the proposed Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Smith.
