George Gordon Worthen, president of the Bank of Little Rock, a community leader and a member of a prominent Little Rock family, died Sunday at his Little Rock home. He was 71.

Centers for Youth & Families hosted Legacy: An Appreciation of Change to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the merger of the Elizabeth Mitchell Children’s Center, the Parent Center and Stepping Stone. Held at the Country Club of Little Rock, the event honored the leaders of the merger, Donna McLarty, Kay Patton, Don Pfeifer, George Worthen and Bob Ross (posthumously). Contributions from the event helped fund a Parent Center Endowment.

George Worthen comes from a long line of bankers. “We’re an old banking family in central Arkansas that goes all the way back to 1887,” he says. In fact, it was Worthen’s great-grandfather who founded Worthen Bank in Little Rock in the late 1800s.
