Taylor Stockemer had forgotten how awful losing felt. He and his Arkansas State teammates got a painful reminder on Sunday. Northern Illinois halted the Red Wolves’ nine-game streak with a 38-20 victory in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. It was the first loss for ASU since Sept. 17.

Northern Illinois has won by less than a touchdown in five of the past eight wins, with the Huskies needing Harnish's heroics on multiple occasions. Arkansas State through its first practice session in Mobile Thursday afternoon in preparation for the Jan. 8 GoDaddy.com Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The Red Wolves worked out for approximately two hours at the University of South Alabama practice fields, polishing the game plan for Sunday’s game against Northern Illinois. The game will kick off at 8:00 p.m. and will be nationally televised by ESPN.

During three years at Auburn he faced both defenses with varying degrees of success. Malzahn recently joined host Dari Nowkah on ESPNU’s College Football Wraparound to break down Alabama’s defense. This, of course, is exactly the sort of publicity that ASU was hoping for when it hired Malzahn, one of the top offensive coordinators in the country.

Knowing where Gus Malzahn was a year ago, ASU Athletic Director Dean Lee was still a little stunned that ASU had just landed him as its 28th head coach. Lee’s reaction post-Malzahn press conference was no different than most of the college football following public. Everybody was trying to make sense of how Malzahn wound up at Arkansas State, a school that won the Sun Belt title outright for the first time since joining the league. Could Lee have imagined hiring Malzahn was possible a year ago or, heck, even a week ago?

The Sun Belt Conference announced Monday that Arkansas State's home football game against Troy on Dec. 3 has been selected to be televised by the Sun Belt Network as its game of the week. ?The game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., but will now kickoff at 3:30 p.m. to accommodate the television broadcast.

Arkansas State hasn't wrapped up the regular season, but has already wrapped up a bowl invitation. A 45-19 victory at Middle Tennessee State gave the Red Wolves at least a share of the Sun Belt Conference championship and a spot in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. ASU will face a team from the Mid-American Conference in Mobile, Ala. on Jan. 8.
