Bahn: ADs Say Search Facing Razorbacks' Long Will Take Research, Planning And Instinct

by Chris Bahn 10/19/2012 11:59 am

ArkansasSports360.com recently visited with four BCS conference athletic directors who were in charge of football coaching searches last season. Each had his own approach, but all of the administrators — Arizona’s Greg Byrne, Illinois’ Mike Thomas, North Carolina’s Bubba Cunningham and Washington State’s Bill Moos — agreed that a football coaching search is as consuming as it gets. There is no overstating the importance of the decision currently facing Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long.

Would The Razorbacks Participate In Penn State Roster Raid? Could They? Should They?

by Chris Bahn 7/23/2012 1:47 pm

Few Penn State players are from within SEC recruiting territory. More to the point: few Penn State players would seem to be of interest to Arkansas and Arkansas would seem to have little interest or connection to any players at Penn State. However, we probably shouldn’t totally dismiss the idea that a roster refugee or two could consider the Razorbacks. Currently there are three coaches on the Hogs' staff who actively recruited the Big Ten in recent years.

Ranking The Red Wolves: Freeze Wants ASU Focused On Future, Not Past Road Failures

by Chris Bahn 9/1/2011 12:30 pm

Arkansas State opens the season on Saturday at Illinois. It’s the first game as head coach for Hugh Freeze. Freeze was the offensive coordinator last year as the Red Wolves set multiple team records. Defense was another story last season. Can ASU pick up where it left off offensively in 2010 and improve stopping teams with Freeze overseeing the team?

Illinois 'Cautious' As ASU Red Wolves Visit To Open 2011 Football Season

by The Associated Press 9/1/2011 10:45 am

Last year, Illinois opened the season in an NFL stadium against Missouri, a Big 12 team that has made a habit of making it to a bowl game. This week, the Illini are getting ready for their opener against Arkansas State, a middling team from the Sun Belt Conference — an opponent that so far has underwhelmed the ticket-buying public. But Illinois' players, some of who were talking openly a couple of weeks ago about getting to a quality bowl, now say they're putting those thoughts aside to focus on the Red Wolves alone. Call the Illini cautious as they get ready to open the season Saturday in Champaign.

It’s officially summer. Soaring temperatures are a giveaway to most folks. And the calendar suggests the summer solstice is upon us (it’s today, June 21, if you’re curious). Neither way is how we mark the season at ArkansasSports360.com, though. We know it’s officially summer because media outlets are releasing lists of top assistant coaches. And Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, the legendary Arkansas high school coach and former Razorback offensive coordinator, is once again listed among college football’s top assistants.
