Momentum is building toward an extensive facelift of Lamar Porter Boys Club Athletic Field, the oldest active baseball park in Arkansas. The fundraising effort for the Little Rock landmark gained additional pop when Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee and his wife, Kristen, joined a group backing the makeover.
A live auction of hand-painted home plates to benefit the Jim Elder Good Sport Fund is happening from 6-8 p.m. today (Sept. 27) at the Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock. Admission is free.
Jim Elder Good Sport Fund invites artists to participate in its annual fundraiser, the Home Plate Heroes auction, by painting or decorating home plate-shaped wooden panels to be auctioned to the highest bidder. Proceeds will benefit several local nonprofits.
