USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren said Thursday that John Simone has resigned from the CEO post to focus "on improving his health." Simone, who was being treated for lung cancer, has been on medical leave from the publicly traded trucking firm since April. The company's board named Thomas Glaser to replace him.

USA Truck Inc. CEO John Simone said Thursday that he is being treated for lung cancer, and that while he and his doctors are optimistic, he's not sure yet when he'll return to the company. "I intend to return as soon as medically advisable, and I am hoping that will be sometime this summer," he wrote.

Short of cultural change to repopularize the job, executives know they have to pay more to attract drivers and work harder to keep them. The trend doesn’t look like it is going to get any better anytime soon.
