Veteran coaches J.B. Grimes and John Thompson had no reservations about joining the staff at Arkansas under first-year coach Gus Malzahn. It may be Malzahn's first year as a head coach, but the coaches see an upside not just to working with an acknowledged offensive mastermind, but to returning to their home state and working for an up and coming Red Wolves' program.

Thompson Looking For 'Bite' As Red Wolves Don Pads For The First Time In Spring

Arkansas State defensive coordinator John Thompson likes what he’s seen from his defensive players so far. Through two spring practices he’s seen the desired effort. Thompson likes the tempo the defensive players have brought to the field. But Wednesday, when the Red Wolves put on pads for the first time this spring, is when Thompson can truly begin evaluating what he has. Only then will Thompson be able to tell, as he puts it, who can really “bite.”

Arkansas State’s coaching staff is again complete. John Thompson, a 29-year veteran coordinator and assistant, is joining the Red Wolves’ staff. Thompson is a native of Forrest City and has been working as defensive coordinator at Georgia State. Here’s more from Arkansas State:

So in comes Mike Anderson with “Fastest 40 minutes in basketball” style and nine years head coaching experience. Anderson is a proven winner and program rebuilder two times over. He inherits a program in far better shape than what he encountered at UAB and Missouri. Neither of those schools had the tradition, resources and support of the University of Arkansas. Snap your fingers and the Razorbacks will instantly be a national power again. Easy, right? Not so fast my friend.
