KATV, Channel 7 sports anchor Steve Sullivan, who has a penchant for dubbing his "Friday Night Heroes" with nicknames, as Pulaski Academy quarterback Fredi Knighten on Thursday night which one he liked best: "Lightnin'" Fredi Knighten or "Fast" Fredi. "Oh, it really doesn't matter," said the reserved Knighten, Pulaski Academy's record-breaking quarterback of the past two seasons. Call him Landers Award winner Fredi Knighten now.

Edgehill Event Offers Pryor Center Sneak Peak

Cindy and Chip Murphy hosted an event in their Edgehill home to celebrate the David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History’s acquisition of one of the largest videotape archives in America. Guests enjoyed a sneak preview of clips from the KATV Channel 7 collection, which was donated by the Allbritton family.

Bobby Petrino is rather guarded in his press conference answers, which is why it's fun to watch him open up a bit on his weekly television show, which airs in Little Rock on Sundays at 10:30 p.m. (KATV, Channel 7). He's so technical in his weekly assessment of plays, it might turn off the type of coaches-show-loving crowd that so enjoyed Houston Nutt's dressing room antics during that magical 1998 season. I'm hooked, though, and I imagine so are a lot of folks who enjoy the in-depth inside details to football success.

Fayetteville's KNWA Joins Affiliates For Arkansas State-UCA Game On Sept. 24

Television broadcast of the Arkansas State-UCA game will truly be statewide. Fayetteville-based KNWA will broadcast the Sept. 24 game between in-state schools. KNWA, the area NBC affiliate, joins Little Rock’s KATV and Jonesboro’s KAIT as broadcast affiliates for the game.

KATV Will Televise Arkansas State Red Wolves-UCA Bears Football Game This Fall

Arkansas State and UCA figured to generate some attention when they play Sept. 24 in Jonesboro. It’s a rare in-state matchup between FBS and FCS programs and resumes the series 14 years after the Red Wolves held on for a 35-34 victory against the Bears. KATV will add to the festivities by broadcasting the game.

A year ago to the day, KATV sports director Steve Sullivan was handing the Landers Award to Michael Dyer in a ceremony befitting the presentation of the Heisman Trophy. Dyer went on to break Bo Jackson's freshman rushing record at Auburn this season and help lead the Tigers to the national Championship on Monday night. Soon another Arkansan will join an impressive list of Landers Award winners when Sullivan announces the 2010 recipient of an honor Sullivan created 11 years ago.

Legendary Arkansas radio personality Tommy Smith gave listeners, friends and family a scare when he collapsed on air in September. Last night, Arkansans got more of the story on KATV-TV, Channel 7, which aired a lengthly interview with the Outlaw, his wife and others about his alcoholism and what looks to be a slow, steady recovery.
