Saturday Roulette: So You're Telling Arkansas There's A Chance? Vegas Adjusts BCS Odds

by Doc Harper 9/21/2012 9:00 am

Good news, fantasy, and not-so-fantasy gamblers! You can still bet on Arkansas to win the national title this season and you get 500/1 odds! [cue the Dumb and Dumber fans] That’s the very definition of low-risk/high-reward. Lay down $10, and with a historical number of upsets, you could win $5,000. If Arkansas loses a few more games, we might get to that magical 10,000/1 odds line. As the character Kevin from The Office once memorably stated, “When you get 10,000/1 odds on anything, you take it.” (By the way, this is not our advice and we don’t recommend it. Kevin’s character is quite dumb. But it is fun to say.)

Bahn: Senior Playmakers Celebrate Cotton Bowl Victory, Program Transformation

by Chris Bahn 1/7/2012 9:54 am

Jerico Nelson stood on the edge of Arkansas’ postgame celebration in Cowboys Stadium with a grin on his face and a sledgehammer in his right hand. His smile, of course, expressed the joy the senior linebacker and his teammates felt in the moments following a 29-16 victory Cotton Bowl victory. And the sledgehammer? It signified all the work the Razorbacks had put into clinching just the third 11-win season in school history.

by Jim Harris 1/6/2012 6:55 pm

Arkansas seeks its first 11-win season since 1977 in the AT&T Cotton Bowl from Cowboys Stadium. The Razorbacks have won 11 games just twice in their history, also accomplishing the feat in the 1964 11-0 season that resulted in the national championship awarded by the Football Writers Association of America.

by Jim Harris 1/6/2012 2:00 pm

Arkansas should win the AT&T Cotton Bowl. But several Razorbacks who haven't shown up in key games of late need to bring their 'A' games Friday night at Cowboys Stadium or the Hogs' bowl woes of the past quarter-century will continue against a well-coached, disciplined Kansas State football team.

Saturday Roulette: Season Comes To End With Razorbacks, Red Wolves And BCS Title Game

by Doc Harper 1/6/2012 9:47 am

Bowl games create a sense of urgency, a feeling of “I know I’ve already had three plates, but I paid for an all-you-can-eat buffet so I’m going back for ice cream.” Bowl games are the ice cream. We don’t need them or particularly want them, but they are fun and we feel incomplete without them. So Saturday Roulette is going all out. With these last three games, we’re picking the winner against the spread, and the over/under.

Cotton Bowl: Kansas State, Arkansas Meet In Matchup Worth Of A BCS Bowl

by The Associated Press 1/6/2012 9:35 am

The Cotton Bowl matchup of 10-2 teams Friday night is the only postseason game featuring the Big 12 vs. the SEC, which expands next season with the addition of outgoing Big 12 members Texas A&M and Missouri. No other non-BCS bowl had both teams ranked even in the top 15 of the Bowl Championship Series standings, much less the top eight.

Bahn: Top 10 Cotton Bowl Matchup Not Distracting Petrino From Hogs' Real Goal

by Chris Bahn 1/6/2012 2:00 am

Getting the Arkansas football program where Bobby Petrino wants it isn’t about beating Kansas State. No disrespect intended there, but LSU and Alabama are clearly on Petrino’s mind. He mentioned the importance of getting to Atlanta for the SEC title game during his final Cotton Bowl media appearance.

Cotton Bowl Pressbox Roundtable: Kansas State's Running Game vs. Hogs Has Panel's Attention

by Jim Harris 1/5/2012 1:30 pm

Well we fibbed a little back in late November: We weren't done with the Pressbox Roundtable for the football season. Here we offer up our AT&T Cotton Bowl edition, as Bruce James and the media gang all look at pertinent topics for the game, as well as Jan. 9's national title matchup between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama. Have your say in the comments section at the end.

Cotton Bowl: Petrino, Snyder See Special Teams As Critical In Upcoming Game

by Chris Bahn 1/5/2012 9:00 am

Neither Wildcats Coach Bill Snyder nor Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino has paid attention to other games in the postseason. That’s what both acknowledged when visiting with the media on Wednesday. However, both understand the importance of kickers and special teams. Snyder and Petrino didn’t need to see bowl games blown on the foot of a kicker to know games can be lost when things go awry in the kicking game.

Jim Harris: Five Great Razorback Bowl Games Worth Recalling

by Jim Harris 1/4/2012 3:16 pm

With just 12 wins among its 38 bowl games all-time, the Arkansas Razorback program’s best post-season performances aren’t too hard to assess. As the Jan. 6 AT&T Cotton Bowl approaches, with its No. 6 vs. No. 8 matchup of Arkansas and Kansas State, let’s look back at the bowl games that mattered to the Hog program, both in their immediacy of the UA victory and what the win did for the program long-term.

Bahn: National Attention Light, But Razorbacks Very Aware Of Kansas State QB Collin Klein

by Chris Bahn 1/4/2012 9:00 am

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein has statistics that put him in company alongside Heisman Trophy winners and some of the elite players in Big 12 history. Somehow, Klein has managed to pile up those numbers without a lot of national acclaim. Arkansas is paying attention to the 6-foot-6, 226-pound junior.

Cotton Bowl: Are Razorbacks, Wildcats Battling For Conference Bragging Rights?

by Chris Bahn 1/4/2012 9:00 am

Inevitably, the question comes up every bowl week. Football’s postseason matches up teams from different conferences and talk of the games being an opportunity for bragging rights is a natural byproduct. This week at the Cotton Bowl is no different. No. 6 Arkansas is here representing the SEC and No. 8 Kansas State is here on behalf of the Big 12. So the question gets asked.

Cotton Bowl: Razorbacks Hoping To Move Ball Through Air Against Wildcats

by Chris Bahn 1/3/2012 3:00 pm

Arkansas wide receiver Jarius Wright has seen the numbers. He can see that Kansas State has struggled to defend the pass this season and Wright isn’t shy when the topic arises. “I’m definitely licking my chops a little bit,” the Razorbacks’ leading receiver told media during interviews for Friday’s Cotton Bowl game. Kansas State, while ranked No. 8 as a team, enters the game with the 104th ranked pass defense. That places the Wildcats among the 15 worst teams in the FBS at defending the pass, which they saw often in the Big 12.

Bahn: Razorbacks' Experiences At Cowboys Stadium Should Be Beneficial In Cotton Bowl

by Chris Bahn 1/3/2012 10:00 am

Watch on Friday. You’ll catch Razorbacks watching the Cowboys Stadium video board when their attention should be elsewhere. It will happen, but Arkansas players and coaches like the fact they’ve been in the venue before. Some are still awed by what linebacker Alonzo Highsmith called it earlier this year, “the Disneyland of Football.” Still, the Razorbacks consider it an advantage to have had previous victories at "Jerry World."

Cotton Bowl: Broadcast Schedule Working To Razorbacks Advantage

by Chris Bahn 1/2/2012 10:02 am

Today is full of bowl games. Too full, in fact. “What!!??!!,” you ask. Check out the schedule for Jan. 2, which includes six games. Which is great because the season is winding down quickly. Here’s the deal, though. And this is why, in some ways, Arkansas is fortunate to not have been selected for the Capital One Bowl.
