The ninth edition — now officially the Wal-Mart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G — was won by Na Yeon Choi on June 28 in front of large crowds, most of whom were rooting for former University of Arkansas star Stacy Lewis, who finished in a tie for third.

The Southern Amateur Championship began and continues to be a a major amateur golf event bringing together an array of skilled players from clubs that are members of the Southern Golf Association. For example, the great Bobby Jones from East Lake Country Club in Atlanta won the event three times. Most recent U.S. Open winner Webb Simpson is a two-time Southern Amateur champion hailing from Raleigh, N.C. But the field also includes qualifiers and other invitees, include many from beyond the United States. This year's event, set for July 18-21 at Chenal Country Club's Bear Den course, will include 15 international amateurs.

The official LPGA Tour event returns to Pinnacle Country Club June 25-July 1 where a $2 million purse is up for grabs, making it one of the top five purses on Tour.
The newest name to surface in the Arkansas basketball team's search for front-line help is Coty Clarke, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound power forward from Birmingham, Ala., and Lawson State Community College. Coty reports offers from Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Georgia and Bradley, and Memphis and UAB have shown interest. Clarke visited Georgia in late March. Meanwhile, UA Coach Mike Anderson and football defensive coordinator Paul Haynes are set to appear in Heber Springs on Thursday night.
Warren Stephens’ Alotian Club, the only Arkansas golf course ranked in Golf Digest’s Top 100 U.S. Courses (No. 14 in the 2011 list), is also No. 1 in the state among private courses in a survey taken of top Arkansas golfers.
Stacy Lewis was able to turn the 18th green at Pinnacle Country Club into another gathering point of University of Arkansas fans. The former All-America at Arkansas made a 5-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th to cap a 5-under 66 that tied Yani Tseng, the world's No. 1 player, for the first-round lead at the LPGA Northwest Arkansas Championship.
