Smith just returned from the national media tour, first in Hoover, Ala., to meet the Southeastern Conference press and then through the "carwash" of ESPN with players Tyler Wilson and Knile Davis. After that, Smith was ready to attempt to play golf with Arkansas media and program supporters at Paradise Valley Golf and Athletic Club on Thursday. But Smith, who was last a head coach at Michigan State in 2006 before being hired to replace Bobby Petrino in April, still was quite blown away by the visit to ESPN in Bristol, Conn.

by Chris Bahn 5/15/2012 11:50 am

So far six Arkansas football players have been arrested this spring, including five allegedly involved in taking property that isn't theirs. They have nobody to blame but themselves. Bobby Petrino, John L. Smith and the NCAA aren't at fault for their stupidity.

by Jim Harris 4/21/2012 6:15 pm

Arkansas sophomore cornerback Tevin Mitchel, who wasn’t on campus for last year’s Razorback spring game, wasn’t sure how many fans to expect for Saturday’s Red-White clash, but he was hopeful for 20,000, he said late Saturday afternoon. UA senior quarterback Tyler Wilson said he almost felt choked up when he took the field and saw a record spring crowd in the Reynolds Razorback Stadium stands. Bahn: Replacing Talented Trio Of Receivers Will Be 'Weird' For Petrino, Razorbacks

by Chris Bahn 3/14/2012 12:00 am

Bobby Petrino will walk out of the Broyles Complex and onto the turf at Reynolds Razorback Stadium today when spring practice begins. Just like always. Unlike the last three spring sessions and four fall camps since 2008, however, Petrino will not see Joe Adams, Greg Childs and Jarius Wright when he looks in the direction of the wide receivers. Petrino expects the process to replace the trio to be a challenge. And, well, weird.

Jim Harris: Some Bests and Worsts of Arkansas Sports in 2011

by Jim Harris 12/28/2011 3:37 pm

The state of Arkansas saw a year of wonderment, brilliance, the high of victory and the low of unspeakable tragedy in the sports year that was 2011. College football success may have reached an all-time high among the larger Arkansas universities, and even college basketball picked itself off the mat in some locales. The Razorback Nation was rocked by the death late in the season of backup tight end Garrett Uekman, just as the Hogs reached their highest national ranking nearly 34 years leading up to the showdown with LSU. We witnessed two exciting high-profile job searches, and we again cringed at the antics of Arkansans in the professional spotlight. It was quite a year. Here are some feats that stand out as best or worst.

Bahn: Playing Keep Away From Arkansas' Offense Hasn't Kept Razorbacks From Scoring

by Chris Bahn 11/15/2011 4:00 pm

Opponents might play keep away with the Razorbacks, but you’re not necessarily keeping them away from the end zone. Look no further than Saturday’s game when Arkansas had the ball nearly 15 minutes less than the opponent. Essentially, the Razorbacks spotted Tennessee an entire quarter of game time. And the end result was a 49-7 Arkansas victory.
