Murphy Oil Corp. of El Dorado announced Wednesday evening that its Canadian subsidiary has agreed to sell oil sands properties in Alberta to Suncor Energy for about $744 million. CEO Roger Jenkins said the deal will "further place our focus in North America on our unconventional assets" and help the company's balance sheet.

Murphy Oil Corp. of El Dorado on Wednesday reported a net loss of $14.4 million, or 8 cents per diluted share, in the first quarter of the year, citing a drop in oil prices. Murphy Oil said that was down from a net income of $155.3 million, or 85 cents per diluted share, during the same period last year. Income from continuing operations during the first quarter was $3.5 million compared to $169.3 million last year.
