Hospital physicians are a growing trend in the United States. The Society of Hospital Medicine estimated that there are 44,000 practicing hospitalists in the country, approximately quadruple the number in 2003, and nearly 75 percent of hospitals have some type of hospitalist program.
Cummins joined St. Vincent on April 1. As vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at the St. Vincent Health System, he will oversee the quality of patient care. He will also maintain relationships and communication between physicians and members of the organization’s administration.
