Saturday Roulette: Texas State Fair Edition; Can Razorbacks Extend Streak To … Two?

by Doc Harper 10/12/2012 9:30 am

Good news! It’s Red River Rivaly Shootout week, which, as mentioned last year, is my favorite non-SEC game of the year. I love the look of the red and orange side by side, two storied programs clashing, and the spectacle of the Texas State Fair surrounding the Cotton Bowl. The fair is known far and wide for its record of innovation and progress in the fried food arts. Like last year, Saturday Roulette will honor that hard work by wagering some of the new fried food debuting at the fair this year in lieu of betting our usual fantasy dollars. We had another good week last week, going 5-3. The season total is 26-21. We’re rolling! Here are this week’s winners:

Saturday Roulette: It’s Okay To Be More Interested In Other Games This Week, Razorback Fans

by Doc Harper 10/5/2012 9:30 am

Remember the scene in The Godfather when Michael tells Vito, “We’ll get there, Pop. We’ll get there.” Only they never really get there because [SPOILER ALERT] Vito dies right after that and Michael only sinks deeper into the Mafia culture. Razorback football reminds me of that scene. Unless “getting there” refers to basketball season, in which case, count us in.

Saturday Roulette: So You're Telling Arkansas There's A Chance? Vegas Adjusts BCS Odds

by Doc Harper 9/21/2012 9:00 am

Good news, fantasy, and not-so-fantasy gamblers! You can still bet on Arkansas to win the national title this season and you get 500/1 odds! [cue the Dumb and Dumber fans] That’s the very definition of low-risk/high-reward. Lay down $10, and with a historical number of upsets, you could win $5,000. If Arkansas loses a few more games, we might get to that magical 10,000/1 odds line. As the character Kevin from The Office once memorably stated, “When you get 10,000/1 odds on anything, you take it.” (By the way, this is not our advice and we don’t recommend it. Kevin’s character is quite dumb. But it is fun to say.)

Latu signed with Oklahoma, but did not meet enrollment requirements after spending two years at College of the Canyons (Calif.).

Here’s some good news for Arkansas fans: West Virginia is officially joining the Big 12 for 2012. What does this have to do with the Razorbacks, exactly? Well, this means Arkansas should be able to fill its 12th game in the near future. Perhaps even as soon this week.

Saturday Roulette: Introducing The Rigged Slots Award; By The Way, It's Bama Week

by Doc Harper 9/23/2011 12:00 pm

If the first week of Saturday Roulette was the type that would make you think about quitting your job and betting on games for a living, the second week was the kind that makes The Wife tell you, “Clock in at work early on Monday.” Saturday Roulette humbly went 3-5 last week on the type of Saturday that felt cursed.

AS360 Football Picks, Week 4: Making Cheese Toast

by Mark Carter 9/23/2011 11:39 am

Some folks seem to be equating the Hogs' chances of winning in Tuscaloosa on Saturday to making cheese toast in an upright toaster.

by Chris Bahn 8/14/2011 12:00 pm

It was nothing personal, Arkansas fans. Country megastar Brad Paisley took to Twitter on Thursday to explain a recent tour prank that rankled some Razorback supporters. Paisley was retaliating to a prank from tourmates Eden’s Edge when he set fire to a Razorback doormat.

Brad Paisley Sets Fire To Rug, Reputation Among Razorback Fans

by Chris Bahn 8/11/2011 5:00 pm

Brad Paisley apparently has some explaining to do in Arkansas. Video has surfaced of the country star setting fire to a Razorback welcome mat. Paisley, who later tossed an Arkansas hat into the fire, was retaliating for having his West Virginia welcome mat stolen and replaced with the Razorback mat outside his tour bus. Eden’s Edge, a country group from Arkansas, was responsible for the mat swap. Video of both is captured below.

Top 25 National Preview: Alabama, Ohio State, Boise State All Hoping to Make a Run for National Championship

by Ron Jumper 7/12/2010 12:00 am

College football is likely to see the same-old, same-old, with the kind of talent Coach Nick Saban managed to stockpile in Tuscaloosa, Ala., since his arrival in 2007. The offense should be as efficient, if not as boring, as last year’s, and the defense will simply reload with more five-star prep talent.
