You’ve seen the arrows in other columns. An “up” arrow for OK, a “down” arrow for not OK. Since these icons have been used elsewhere, I have long thought they were the province of others. No longer. There really is no good reason why I can’t employ a similar device as an efficient way to comment on, and perhaps rant about, a number of random consumer-related influences. So, here goes.

Enrollment to Drop at NWACC, Pulaski Tech

Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville are expecting another drop in enrollment figures. Official head counts are not reported until Jan. 28, the 11th day of spring semester classes, but the numbers are down at both schools.

Even the weather that was far from conducive for baseball — or thoughts about baseball — could not keep a regular crowd of basketball fans away from hearing Arkansas Razorback baseball coach Dave Van Horn describe his team's 2012 prospects Monday. The wintry mix didn't stop Van Horn and former UA baseball coach Norm DeBriyn, as well as UA athletic director emeritus Frank Broyles, from making the flight to Little Rock for the Downtown Tip Off Club's weekly meeting. Van Horn, who said he couldn't remember the last time he was asked to speak in Central Arkansas, was eager to show his appreciation for the area fans Monday at the Downtown Tip Off Club's weekly meeting.

The last thing that I want to do is be a financial burden on my family when it comes to the cost of my college. I know they’ll be very relieved if I am presented with some locally funded scholarships that I applied for (if you don’t know what scholarships to apply for, your school counselors are always available).
