Crystal Bridges Exhibition Rated No. 1 Must-See by Artnet News

Artnet News, a publication of Artnet, an information company that focuses on the art market, recently listed The 25 Must-See Museum Shows Around the World.”

No. 1 on the list was State of the Art, the exhibition of contemporary American art by emerging and undiscovered artists at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

And this gives us an excuse to update readers on the sales success of a few of the artists in that exhibition. You may remember that Arkansas Business wrote about the surge in demand for their work that a couple of the Arkansas artists reported after their inclusion in the high-profile exhibition, which has received national attention.

  • Delita Martin of Little Rock reports that “it is still a very busy time! I have a small waiting list of individuals wanting work, which is amazing to me. I also have solo exhibitions scheduled, as well as group exhibitions for 2015 and 2016.” Martin, a painter and printmaker, adds that she’s also preparing a new body of work, which will be shown at Boswell Mourot Gallery in Little Rock.
  • Guy Bell, also of Little Rock and also a painter, says that he had had a few out-of-state inquiries and then received two local commissions for his work.
  • Randy Regier, a Wichita, Kansas, sculptor who creates pieces that resemble vintage toys, said last week that he hadn’t been quite so lucky. But Regier, as are most artists, is familiar with the world’s indifference, adding, “It helps that I did not go into this Crystal Bridges show thinking that things would suddenly change for their recognition of my work.” Regier is thinking about entering teaching.
