Oaklawn Waves General Admission for 2015 Season
Oaklawn Racing & Gaming announced it is waving its general admission fee for the 2015 season, which begins Jan. 9.

Oaklawn Racing & Gaming of Hot Springs has announced it is waving its $2 general admission fee for the 2015 thoroughbred racing season.

The decision to wave the general admission was made to celebrate the $20 million expansion, which began in April 2013 and is still going.

"Trying to operate while doing major construction is never easy and always a challenge," Charles J. Cella, president of the Oaklawn Jockey Club, said in a news release. "Our fans and our horsemen have shown great patience and support during this period. We wanted to do something to express our appreciation, and we felt this gesture would be a good way to simply and sincerely say, 'thank you.'"

Oaklawn opened the first phase of the expansion project in November, adding about 18,000-SF, which includes gambling space and support facilities. The reconstruction now taking place is to the existing gambling area, and is to be completed by the end of December.

At completion, Oaklawn will have two additional food and beverage facilities — Silks Bar & Grill and Bistro 2705. The gambling area will include a poker room and a high-limits area.

The live racing season begins Jan. 9 and continues through the Arkansas Derby on April 11. Oaklawn says it has received nearly 3,000 stall requests, which is about double what it can hold.
