Arkansas Foodbank Distributes 22 Million Pounds of Food in 2014

The Arkansas Foodbank distributed more than 22 million pounds of food in 2014.

The total beat the previous record set in 2013 by nearly 1.5 million pounds, an increase of 7 percent.

"Together we celebrate this distribution number with our staff, local agencies and communities across central and southern Arkansas who were determined to distribute a record amount of food to Arkansans in need," Rhonda Sanders, CEO, said in a news release.

The 2014 totals resulted in approximately 18.6 million meals for 270,000 Arkansans in a 33-county area.

The Arkansas Foodbank is the largest food bank in the state, and is a member of Feeding American and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. It has warehouses in Little Rock, Warren and Caddo Valley, which serve nearly 300 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other agencies.
