In media news, two veteran journalists have left the industry to take on new roles — one in the private sector and the other in state government.

Cathy Frye, a longtime reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has taken over as spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Correction. Dina Tyler, who had been acting as spokesman for the department and the Department of Community Corrections, said Frye’s first day was Jan. 5.

And Jennifer Gill, a name familiar to newspaper readers in Fort Smith, said she has left the Southwest Times Record after more than 16 years. Gill was metro editor at the paper for the last four years.

Gill said she was taking a job in the marketing department at ArcBest Corp. of Fort Smith.
