103.7 The Buzz’s Tommy Smith Hospitalized After On-air Collapse

2 min read

Tommy Smith was taken to an area hospital Friday morning following an on-air collapse during his "Show With No Name" talk-show on KABZ-FM, 103.7 The Buzz.

Smith, 57, was conducting the show on-location at Frank Fletcher Dodge in Sherwood with his co-host David Bazzel. Shortly after 9:30, Smith suffered what appeared to be a seizure. Listeners heard a loud crash and someone saying "Call 911 now," before the station switched to a commercial.

Justin Acri, program director for The Buzz, began his "The Zone" show at 10:06 by asking listeners to pray for the health of Smith. Tests are being performed on Smith and his condition is stable.

"Thoughts and prayers of all the staff at Signal Media are with Tommy and his family at this time," Steve Jonsson, Vice President of Signal Media and General Manager of 103.7 The Buzz, said in a perpared statement.

"We are here to provide any support that they may need. And we ask the listeners to include the family in their thoughts and prayers as well."

Smith is longtime local radio personality, having worked for Magic 105 for more than 20 years before moving to Jonsson’s Buzz in 2004.

There, he joined former Razorback football player David Bazzel and — on three days a week — Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sports editor and "Like It Is" columnist Wally Hall.

Hall has since moved to KARN-AM 920 to co-host an afternoon sports talk show with Shawn Arnell. But Smith’s Buzz morning show has maintained its focus on sports with regular detours into politics, entertainment and other topics.
