Dillard’s Inc. of Little Rock spent more than $2.35 million on advertising with properties associated with Warren Stephens in fiscal 2014, down from $3.91 million the year before.
The company revealed the advertising numbers as part of its disclosures related to business with its directors.
In the company’s annual proxy statement, Dillard’s wrote that Stephens Media LLC of Las Vegas, which was partially owned by Stephens, received just over $1 million in advertising fees during the year. New Media Investment Group Inc. of New York City announced it was purchasing “substantially all” of Stephens Media’s assets for $102.5 million in February.
Stephens Media was jointly owned along with Stephens’ Little Rock cousins Witt Stephens Jr. and Elizabeth Stephens Campbell. In fiscal 2013, the company received $1.05 million in Dillard’s advertising and $1.4 million in 2012.
In fiscal 2014, Dillard’s spent more than $2.05 million in advertising with Halifax Media Group LLC of Daytona Beach, Fla., which was also partially owned by Warren Stephens. It too was sold to New Media, for $280 million in November. Halifax received $2.56 million from Dillard’s in 2013, which was up from $2.29 million in 2012.
Dillard’s also reported that Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC, a joint venture between Stephens Media and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s owner, Wehco Media, received $235,000, down from $305,000 in 2013 and $405,000 in 2012. That partnership remained in place after the sale of Stephens Media to New Media.
