NWA Airport Announces Nonstop Service to San Francisco

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport announced it would have nonstop jet service from northwest Arkansas to San Francisco.

The direct flight from United Airlines, which will be operated by SkyWest Airlines, will begin Oct. 25. Kelly Johnson, XNA’s director, said officials have been working for a while to obtain a direct flight to San Francisco.

Mike Malone of the Northwest Arkansas Council said San Francisco is an important destination for northwest Arkansas travelers because Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Sam’s Club have their e-commerce base in the area. The Bay Area is also home to many vendors.

"It’s going to be important for both our business and our leisure travelers to support this new route," said Malone, the CEO of the council. "Certainly, it’s exciting when an airline announces that it’s starting new flights, but our community must show what a wise business decision the airline made in deciding to start the service. If business and leisure travelers take advantage of this new offering, we’re certain San Francisco will be a solid, long-term destination from XNA."

Airport officials said the daily flight would leave at 7:45 AM and land in San Francisco at 9:47 AM. The return flight would leave at 1:30 PM and land at XNA at 7:17 PM.

"On behalf of the Authority’s board of directors, I thank United for providing the people of northwest Arkansas yet another new destination," said Michael Moss, the chairman of the XNA Authority. "I know from my conversations with people throughout the region, this additional service will be very well received."
