Renewable Energy in the U.S. Hits 9.8% of Consumption

In 2014, renewable energy comprised 9.8 percent of total energy consumption in the United States.

“This marks the highest renewable energy share since the 1930s, when wood was a much larger contributor to domestic energy supply,” the U.S. Energy Information Administration said.

The use of renewable energy increased an average of 5 percent per year during 2001-14. The growing use of wind, solar and biofuels accounted for part of the increase.
