Agriculture Summit to Highlight Farm Economy, Weed Management

An agricultural summit sponsored by Simmons First National Bank will take place Jan. 20 at Dumas, featuring several agricultural experts.

The event, which goes from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., will be at the Dumas Community Center.

Speakers include:

  • Richard Brock of Brock & Associates, who will discuss the current farm economy, the outlook for commodity pricing and strategies for sales.
  • Pine Bluff attorney David Bridgforth, who will discuss the 2014 farm bill and what it means to the agricultural community.
  • Jason Bond of Mississippi State University, who will speak on the development of weed-control programs for rice, soybean, cotton and corn with an emphasis on managing herbicide-resistant weed species.
  • Anthony Mills of the Monsanto Co., who will discuss new technologies for resistant weed management.

A catfish lunch will be held and prize drawings will take place throughout the day, including a grand prize drawing for a $1,000 gift certificate to Mack’s Prairie Wings at Stuttgart.
