A Chatbot Can Be A Great Salesperson

Imagine you walk into a store and no one greets you. You continue through the entryway and start looking around. You see something you like. Maybe you have questions about it or even want to purchase it. You look for an employee for help and you can’t find anyone to help you. Rather than wait around for someone to come around to assist you, you get frustrated and head to another store.

Whoever owned that store just lost a customer. Right?

While this scenario probably doesn’t play out too often in the real world, it happens all the time on the majority of websites.

A visitor lands on a website. They see something they like. They have questions but they can’t find the answer as they look throughout the website. Inevitably they leave to go to another website that may answer their question. Sales opportunity lost.

Fortunately, there is a fairly inexpensive and effective way to stop customers from leaving your website without their questions or needs addressed. It’s a simple add-on called the chatbot.

If you’ve spent any time on the web, you’ve seen a chatbot. They are the small boxes that pop up to ask you if you need any help or have any questions. Typically, it will include the name of the customer service representative and a space where you can immediately ask your question.

On the back end of the chatbot, the question is delivered to a salesperson or customer service representative’s desktop computer or mobile phone so they can answer quickly wherever they may be. Often times companies will have after-hours, remote staffing for the chatbot so that late-night inquiries can be answered. Turning off the chatbot after office hours is also an option.

While it’s ideal to create a chatbot alongside the development of a new website, you don’t have to wait. You can add on a “third party” chatbot to most websites. These solutions are sometimes constricted by a more simplistic communication but they still allow for immediate interaction with potential or current customers.

Depending on its complexity, the cost of a third party chatbot can be between $50 to $100 a month.

It could be well worth installing a chatbot on your website. After all, you don’t want potential customers just wandering out of your store without first asking if they need any help.
