CHI St. Vincent has appointed Dr. Gerry Jones, a cardiothoracic surgeon with 10 years of administrative experience, as vice president of medical affairs for central Arkansas.

He will lead day-to-day operations of medical staff at the CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, the North hospital in Sherwood and the Morrilton hospital, the health care system said Wednesday.

Jones is an El Dorado native and is returning home after more than three decades in his field. He most recently served as chief medical officer at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Centers in Lake Pointe, Centennial and Sunnyvale, Texas.

Before that, Jones held the same position with Tenet Healthcare in Dallas and served as managing physician partner at Texas Regional Medical Center in Sunnyvale.

He received a bachelor's degree, with distinction, from Rhodes College and a doctorate of medicine from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. Jones also completed his residency and a fellowship at Cornell University.
