Did you know the ambulance service Medic One LLC of Jonesboro is in the process of buying Gateway Ambulance in St. Louis, which would double Medic One’s size?
The transaction is expected to close on Feb. 4, according to Medic One President Ryan Kibler. The price wasn’t disclosed to Whispers.
Gateway has close to 200 employees and 47 ambulances. It was founded in 1968, and was acquired by the transportation company Procarent of Louisville, Kentucky, in 2007.
Medic One employs about 140 people and has 19 locations in Arkansas and Missouri. It also has a fleet of 45 ambulances.
“We’ve been trying to enter that marketplace for some time,” Kibler said.
But the rules and regulations in St. Louis make it difficult “to break into that market,” he said. “You basically have to buy the current services that are there. So we worked on that.”
This year, Medic One is a finalist for the Arkansas Business of the Year for Category III, which is for companies with 56-150 employees. And Kibler is a finalist for Business Executive of the Year. The awards ceremony will be held March 6 at the Marriott Ballroom in Little Rock.
