DHS Still Scrutinizing Skyline HealthLock Icon

1 min read

The Arkansas Department of Human Services is keeping a close eye on the nursing home chain Skyline Health.

You may remember that, back in May, the New Jersey company saw two of its 21 skilled nursing facilities in Arkansas put into receivership.

“We are watching them very closely and have been in conversations with Skyline, their bankers and others,” DHS spokeswoman Amy Webb said last week in an email to Whispers. “At this point they are not in receivership, and I haven’t heard that that was imminent. But it is a serious situation.”

On May 4, DHS filed lawsuits to put Skyline’s Spring Place Health & Rehab in Hazen and Dierks Health & Rehab into receivership after concerns surfaced over the company’s finances and its ability to provide food to residents. It was the first time since the 1980s that DHS had sued to take control of a nursing home.

The nursing home chain, which also uses the business name Skyline Healthcare LLC, also has had facilities taken over by regulators in South Dakota, Kansas, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

Nursing home residents are “a very vulnerable population,” Webb said. “So the health and safety of the Skyline residents are our top priority. That means we are continuously checking on the facilities to ensure they are meet the needs of residents, especially as it relates to food, medicines and staff care.”
